Around six-thousand teenagers descended on Troon beach yesterday for a flash party organised on Facebook.

Police Scotland were alerted to the event and deployed extra officers at the train station and mounted officers at the beach.

Chief Superintendent Paul Maine says that his officers seized a large quantity of alcohol and arrested ten individuals, the youngest of which was 14. He reported that most of the revellers were from Glasgow and that many of them arrived already under the influence of alcohol.

Members of the public reported that kids as young as 12 years old were joining in and drinking alcohol. Others at the beach reported mass brawls breaking out in the group and bottles thrown at police on horseback who were trying to bring the situation under control.

Volunteers from the Friends of Troon Beaches gave up their time to help clean the beach after the crowd dispersed.
